Basketball is a popular team sport played on a rectangular court with two hoops or baskets positioned at each end. The objective of the game is to score points by shooting the ball through the opponent's hoop while preventing them from doing the same. Basketball is played by two teams, each consisting of five players on the court at any given time.
Players advance the ball up the court by dribbling (bouncing) it with one hand while moving or by passing it to teammates. Dribbling is subject to rules limiting the number of steps a player can take without dribbling and governing the use of the non-dribbling hand.
